Pred kratkim nabavil povsem novega iMaca, ki ga bom zaradi preglasnega ventilatorja in nekega čudnega škrcanja v ventilatorju vrnil na popravilo v Big Bang. ker se težava pojavila praktično od prvega dneva nakupa bom po vsej verjetnosti zahteval novega, tukaj pa pridemo do mojega problema:

Na tem računalniku sem že gor naložil vse svoje datoteke, slike, video posnetke, programe - svašta v glavnem, in me skrbi, kako se izognit ponovni inštalaciji vsega od začetka na nov računalnik (v primeru da bo BigBang ugodil moji zahtevi) - ali bo deloval Time Machine backup? Ali bom moral iPhona znova syncat kot na nov računalnik (prenos iPhone sinhronizacije iz PC-ja na Maca je bla pain in the ass...)?

Pred časom, ko sem zaradi prodaje brisal disk na mojem PowerBooku z naloženim Leopardom, sem zbrisal userja in mi je vse skupaj shranilo v dmg file. To sem prenesel na drugi računalnik z restore user ali nekaj podobnega, ne spomnim se natančno. Vsekakor je dobro, da preden karkoli delaš, trikrat preveriš, kako je s tem.

If you are using Mac OS X 10.5 or later, these are the steps Apple says you have to follow to recover your entire Home folder (the one you had before the installation):
"1. Enable the root user (for detailed instructions on how to do that, you can head over HERE.
2. Log in as root.
3. Verify that you do not currently have a user account created with the same short name as the home folder that you want to recover. If you already have a user with the same name as the home folder you are recovering, delete the user account employing System Preferences. Note: If the new user already has documents in their Home folder, which you want to keep, be sure to select the option "Save the home folder in a disk image" or "Do not change the home folder" when prompted. You must keep at least one administrator user on the system, so if you are removing only your administrator user, first create a temporary administrator user that can be deleted after step 9.
4. In Finder, open the hard drive, then navigate to Previous Systems/YYYY-MM-DD_HHMM/Users (where YYYY-MM-DD_HHMM is the date and time when the Archive and Install was performed).
5. Locate the Home folder that you want to recover.

7. Drag (move) the user's (short name) folder from /Previous Systems/YYYY-MM-DD_HHMM/Users to /Users.
8. Use the Accounts pane in System Preferences to create a new user with the same short name as the home folder moved in the previous step.
9. Click OK when prompted with "A folder in the Users folder already has the name 'short name.' Would you like to use that folder as the Home folder for this user account?" This will correct the ownership on all files in the Home.
10. Log out.
11. Log in as the user created in the previous step.
12. Disable the root user."

Mislim, da je TimeMachine backup najboljša opcija, če želiš 1:1 kopijo trenutnega sistema in vseh datotek.

Ok - zdej pa samo da preverim, če pravilno razmišjam:

Prek TimeMachine aplikacije naredim popolni backup na zunanji USB disk, na macu zbrišem vse moje in zaupne datoteke, vrnem prodajalcu, ki mi da novega maca. Doma zaženem nov comp, ga priklopim na zunanji disk z backupom in restoram...bo to delovalo? Bo potem to čisti klon mojega prejšnjega compa?

Da, moralo bi biti.

pa v papirologijo prvo mal poglej, kdo je bigbangov pooblaščeni serviser:
1. da se ne boš vozu sm pa tja
2. da ne bodo v bihbangu sprejel tvoj pc, ga poslali na servis, potem nazaj iz servisa v bihbang, ti boš pa na njega čaku - predolgo.

Jup... ko dobiš nov računalnik, na novo naložiš sistem. Po končani instalaciji te bo vprašalo, če želiš prenesti podatke iz obstoječega Mac-a. Tam izbereš opcijo time machine... po zaključenem kopiranju podatkov imaš čisto kopijo prvega računalnika.
